The leader of the Houthi group, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, said in a televised speech on Thursday that “there are forthcoming tidings,” referring to the escalation of operations carried out by the Sanaa government forces against “Israel” and its affiliated ships.
He added, “In support of our country (Yemen) to Gaza, the Yemeni people appeared united in all its provinces in support of the Palestinian cause.”
He continued, “With the help of Allah, 8 operations were executed this week with 15 missiles and a march in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Indian Ocean.”
He affirmed that one of the military operations this week was carried out towards the Mediterranean Sea, threatening that direct operations from Yemeni territory “will have a significant impact,” saying, “There are forthcoming tidings carrying great, significant, and influential momentum.”
It is noted that on Wednesday, Bloomberg reported a U.S. Pentagon official saying, “The U.S. government is concerned that the Houthis have the ability to expand the scope of strikes on shipping beyond the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to the Mediterranean Sea.”
Since late last year, the Sanaa government forces have been targeting Israeli ships and those affiliated with them in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea before announcing the extension of their operations to a part of the Indian Ocean. They earlier declared the start of implementing the fourth stage of escalation against ships “even to the Mediterranean” in support of Palestinians in Gaza. They say their operations against “Israel” will continue until the latter stops the genocide in Gaza and lifts the siege.
In response, the U.S. and Britain conducted airstrikes on Yemen, prompting the Sanaa government forces to announce that their operations would include targeting American and British commercial and military ships in response to what they termed the “American-British aggression.”
On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation called “Aspides” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States launched an operation called “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aimed at countering the attacks carried out by the Sanaa government forces against “Israel.”
