Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Iran possesses the ability to determine the appropriate timing for both negotiations and military confrontation, emphasizing that Tehran does not succumb to external pressure when making its strategic decisions.
Speaking in remarks carried by the Iranian news agency Fars, Ghalibaf said that Iran “is not compelled to choose between war and negotiations,” explaining that the Iranian leadership engages in diplomacy when it serves the country’s interests and resorts to military action when circumstances require such a course.
He noted that Iran had, on one occasion, succeeded in preventing an attack on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, by signaling a potential response and suspending negotiations. On another occasion, he said, the same objective was achieved through military strikes against Israel.
Integration of Military and Diplomatic Efforts
Ghalibaf explained that battlefield achievements and diplomatic engagement have functioned as complementary elements in strengthening Iran’s regional position, asserting that “victories on the battlefield and diplomatic progress have contributed to supporting Lebanon and confronting policies of blockade and pressure.”
Military Readiness and Messages Regarding a Naval Blockade
In a related context, the Iranian parliament speaker stressed that Iran’s armed forces remain in a constant state of readiness to address various challenges, affirming that the country is capable of responding to any measures directed against it.
He added that Iran is determined to thwart any attempts to impose maritime restrictions, stating that “a naval blockade will turn into another defeat for the enemy,” in a reference to the continuing escalation and regional tensions.
