Security sources have revealed new information regarding the nature of the relationship between UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash and Israeli intelligence agencies, indicating that this relationship developed significantly following the outbreak of the war launched by the Saudi-UAE coalition against Yemen in 2015.
According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, citing those sources, Israeli security agencies had monitored Gargash for years due to positions described as being aligned with or close to Israeli policy orientations. The relationship reportedly entered a more organized and coordinated phase beginning in 2015.
Recruitment Through an Agency Affiliated with the Israeli Foreign Ministry
The sources stated that initial contact with Gargash was made through the “Mamad” unit, which operates under the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is considered one component of Israel’s intelligence apparatus alongside Mossad and Aman.
According to the same account, Mamad played a key role in identifying and developing the relationship with Gargash before Mossad became directly involved in the matter in 2018 due to its strategic importance.
A Front Company and an Extensive Network of Relationships
The sources claimed that the effort to recruit Gargash began through the establishment of a company operating under the cover of renewable energy projects. The company’s office was activated in Abu Dhabi and reportedly hosted experts linked to Mossad on a permanent basis, while maintaining ongoing communication with Emirati political and security officials.
The sources added that these activities led to the formation of a network that initially included 17 influential Emirati figures from the business community and prominent social circles. The network reportedly expanded further after the signing of the official normalization agreements between the UAE and Israel.
“Tevel” as the Main Communication Channel
The sources indicated that Tevel, a department within Mossad, managed the primary channels of communication with Gargash and coordinated with other Emirati officials and figures, including matters related to political positions and public statements.
What Is the “Mamad” Unit?
According to information provided by the sources, Mamad operates externally under the name “Political Research Center,” while in practice carrying out security and intelligence functions linked to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These functions reportedly include analyzing political and security developments in various countries and identifying individuals capable of serving Israeli interests and expanding Israeli influence.
