“Suicidal Mission”: German Media Network Warns of the Danger of Sending the Frigate “Hamburg” to the Red Sea

NYN | News

The German media network “Norddeutscher Rundfunk” has warned of the danger of sending 240 German naval personnel to the Red Sea aboard the frigate “Hamburg,” describing it as a “suicidal mission.”

The network quoted an experienced marine, who stated that the frigate is incapable of countering anti-ship missiles used by the Sana’a government forces, also referred to as the “Houthis.”

It reported that “many soldiers feel uneasy about this mission,” highlighting that this sentiment was expressed by the team in the period leading up to the deployment.

In a confidential conversation with an experienced marine, the German media network reported that the “Hamburg,” like other German frigates, lacks a special radar device onboard that could be used to detect modern anti-ship missiles.

“Norddeutscher Rundfunk” pointed out that “Yemeni Houthis regularly use such weapons in the Red Sea to attack commercial vessels from land, as well as naval ships protecting them.”
