UN efforts to hold a new round of negotiations regarding prisoners in Yemen.

NYN | News

The United Nations is seeking to hold a new round of negotiations between the Aden government and the Sana’a government regarding prisoners next month.

The Russian agency “Sputnik” reported, citing a diplomatic source in the Aden government, that “the United Nations is counting on the meeting, which will be held in the Omani capital, Muscat, to stir stagnant waters and be a gateway to ending the political stalemate in the conflict that is entering its tenth year in Yemen, especially after a similar meeting between the two sides in Jordan earlier this month failed to convene.”

This comes a day after the International Committee of the Red Cross announced that the Sana’a government had unilaterally released 113 prisoners from the Aden government forces in Sana’a as part of the initiative announced on Friday, expressing hope that it would pave the way for further releases.
